Optical Amplifiers
Mlejnek, Zbyněk ; Křepelka, Václav (referee) ; Filka, Miloslav (advisor)
Optical amplifiers has sparked a revolution in the telecommunications industry during th last ten years. Optical amplifiers are devices that amplifies an optical signal directly, without the need to first convert it to an electrical signal. Its ability to provide low-noise amplification over a range of wavelengths, fortuitously correspoding to the low-loss of silica fiber, has made optical networks economically attractive

Machines for unconventional methods of machining
Zelený, Radek ; Osička, Karel (referee) ; Kalivoda, Milan (advisor)
This thesis is based on machines for unconventional machining, focusing on laser machining. The beginning of this work is summarized by what are unconventional machining methods that fall into this category and are then described along with their advantages and disadvantages The next section is focusing on laser machining. This chapter deals with machines used for laser machining parts that are convenient for a laser machine, but there is described a process itself that brings a lot of problems, advantages and disadvantages compared to other methods of machining. Finally, various technologies are compared for their suitability and use.

Measurement of intermodal dispersion in a twin-core optical fibre
Peterka, Pavel ; Kaňka, Jiří ; Honzátko, Pavel
The intermodal dispersion (IMD), that arises from the difference of group delays of the two fundamental modes of the twin-core fibre (TCF), could have a detrimental effect for usage of TCF in high-speed applications. Therefore, its accurate determination is of a high interest. We have estimated the IMD from the fibre refractive index profile and we have determined it from the interference pattern in spectral domain and from the repetition rate of passively mode-locked fibre laser incorporating TCF.
